The Challenge
A leading enterprise managed a large network where multiple engineers were responsible for configuring routers across different locations. Over time, manual configuration changes led to inconsistencies between devices, making it difficult to maintain standard network policies.
Some changes were made without proper approval, while others unintentionally deviated from the intended configuration. As a result, network teams faced increased security risks, spent significant time identifying configuration differences, and had to put in extra effort during compliance audits to verify every device manually.
The Solution
To improve configuration consistency and simplify compliance management, the enterprise deployed iProvision to automate configuration validation and drift detection.
The process began with TemplateHub, where approved golden configurations were centrally stored as the standard baseline for all network devices. This ensured every router could be compared against an authorised configuration.
The Compliance Engine continuously compared the running configuration of each router with the approved baseline. Whenever a configuration differed from the standard, the system automatically detected the configuration drift, eliminating the need for manual reviews.
To make troubleshooting easier, the Reports module generated detailed compliance reports highlighting non-compliant devices and the specific configuration differences. This gave network teams clear visibility into the overall compliance status of the network.
Once the drift was identified, operators could quickly restore the approved configuration using the configurations stored in the Configuration Archive, bringing devices back to the required standard with minimal effort and reducing the risk of prolonged security or operational issues.
Modules Used
- TemplateHub
- Compliance Engine
- Configuration Archive
- Reports
Business Benefits
By automating compliance validation and configuration drift detection, the enterprise strengthened network security while reducing the effort required to maintain consistent configurations.
- Improved security compliance by continuously validating device configurations against approved standards.
- Prevented unauthorised or unintended configuration changes from remaining undetected.
- Reduced the time and effort required for compliance audits through automated validation and reporting.
- Maintained consistent configurations across the network, improving operational reliability.
- Enabled faster identification and restoration of non-compliant devices, reducing operational risk.
- Reduced manual effort, allowing network teams to focus on proactive network management.
Outcome
With iProvision, the enterprise replaced manual configuration verification with an intelligent, automated compliance process, enabling faster drift detection, improved security, consistent network configurations, and simplified audit readiness.
