Faster Service Recovery with Automated Traffic Rerouting

The Challenge

A leading telecom operator experienced occasional fibre cuts that disrupted critical enterprise services. Whenever a network link failed, operators had to manually identify the affected path, determine an alternate route, and update the network configuration to restore connectivity.

This manual process increased service downtime, delayed issue resolution, and raised the risk of service-level agreement (SLA) violations. As enterprise customers depended on uninterrupted connectivity, faster recovery became essential to maintaining service quality and customer satisfaction.

The Solution

To reduce service disruption and accelerate recovery, the operator deployed iProvision to automate fault detection and traffic rerouting.

The process began with Telemetry, which continuously monitored the network and immediately detected the link failure as soon as it occurred. Alerts were then generated automatically, notifying network operators without waiting for users to report the issue.

To simplify troubleshooting, Live Topology visually highlighted the impacted path, allowing operators to quickly identify the affected network segment and understand the impact of the failure.

Once the issue was identified, Traffic Engineering analysed the available network paths and used CSPF to calculate the most efficient alternate route based on current network conditions. This ensured that traffic could be redirected without creating additional congestion elsewhere in the network.

The updated path was then applied through PCEP, which automatically updated the Label Switched Path (LSP) and restored network services with minimal operational effort and downtime.

Business Benefits

By automating fault detection and traffic rerouting, the telecom operator improved network resilience while reducing the impact of unexpected link failures.

  • Restored enterprise services much faster by automating failure detection and traffic rerouting.
  • Reduced service downtime and minimised the risk of SLA violations.
  • Improved network resilience by quickly redirecting traffic through alternate paths.
  • Enabled operators to identify affected network links instantly through real-time visual topology.
  • Reduced manual effort during service recovery, allowing network teams to respond more efficiently.
  • Improved customer experience by minimising service disruptions and restoring connectivity quickly.

Outcome

With iProvision, the operator transformed a manual, time-consuming recovery process into an intelligent, automated workflow, enabling faster service restoration, stronger network resilience, and a more reliable experience for enterprise customers.
